Cooperstown is in upstate New York, nestled between the Catskills and the Adirondacks. This region is a popular getaway for picturesque scenery and the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This family friendly destination is home to Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad, which offers family friendly excursions from Milford to Cooperstown. This region makes a terrific destination for adults and kids, who are fans of vintage railroads and the nostalgia of the early days of baseball. Milford DepotThe Milford Train Station, erected in 1869, is a 20 x 70 food wood frame building that was built as a combination freights and passenger facility for the Cooperstown and Susquehanna Valley Railroad. The Leatherstocking Chapter of the Railway Historical Society acquired the building, which was in poor condition, and embarked on a renovation.The Milford Depot waiting room and station agent's office have been renovated to look as they did in the 1800's. The freight room displays exhibits and houses a gift shop. The Depot displays a portion of LRHS archives. Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley RailroadCooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad is owned and operated by the Leatherstocking Chapter of the Railway Historical Society. This vintage railroad, build in 1869, offers nostalgic tours on vintage trains through the scenic Susquehanna River Valley. This historic railroad was built in 1869, when trains were the primary mode of transportation throughout the country. The scenic route takes visitors through scenic wilderness of the Susquehanna River Valley, crosses the river twice over two steel truss bridges. The ever changing landscape includes forests, wetlands and farm land. Once in Cooperstown, the optional round trip shuttle trains travel to the Cooperstown Dreams Park Baseball Camp. The shuttle excursion is an additional fare. The Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railway offers regular train rides and special excursions. From June until September the train operates three days a week. Special events trains include the Easter Bunny Express, Murder Mystery Train, Train Robberies, Books BBQ Train, Railroad Days, Fall Foliage Trains, Oktoberfest, Haunted Halloween Trains, Santa Express Trains and Christmas Lights Trains. Reservations are required for all special event trains. Trains depart from Milford Depot and travel to Cooperstown, unless otherwise specified. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and MuseumA major attraction in Cooperstown is The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which attracts over 350,000 visitors paying tribute to the nation's national past time annually. The Baseball Hall of Fame opened its doors in 1939, offering a nostalgic step back in time. The buildings date to the early 19th century.
