Historic Railroads Offer Family Friendly Passenger Excursions

Passenger excursions on the historic rails of Eastern Pennsylvania offer family friendly entertainment for kids and adults during a scenic tour through the countryside.

Train excursions through the Pennsylvania countryside are a great day of family friendly entertainment. Historic steam locomotives and diesel engine power vintage passenger cars through the scenic country in Eastern Pennsylvania.

Vintage train lines offer regular tours and special events. Popular events may include fall foliage trips, murder mystery trains and dinner trains. Special children's events, such as Halloween trains and Christmas Santa Trains, delight the kids. Vintage rail lines in Eastern Pennsylvania include New Hope and Ivyland, Scranton Limited Train Ride and Electric City Trolley in Scranton.

New Hope and Ivyland Railroad

Passengers are treated to the romance of the sights and sounds of the golden era of steam railroading on New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, which travels through historic Bucks County. The scenic tour includes ever changing views of rolling hills and valleys.

Vintage passenger cars are pulled by an authentic steam locomotive or historic diesel locomotive. Passengers ride in the comfort of 1920's vintage passenger coaches along the same historic route that was filmed in the 1914 movie series, Perils of Pauline.

Tickets can be purchased at the original Victorian witch's hat New Hope Train Station, built in 1891, once the location of the railroad telegraph operator. Passengers may board at either New Hope or at Lahaska Station.

New Hope & Ivyland operates regular tours and special events, including the Evening Star Dinner Train, The Grapevine Express wine and cheese train Railfan Weekend, Fall Foliage Special, Trick or Treat Train, Halloween Train, Murder Mystery Dinner Trains and the North Pole Express Christmas Train. The rail line operates excursions year around.

Electric City Trolley Museum operates a museum and trolley tours in Lackawanna Heritage Valley.

Scranton Limited Train Ride

Steamtown offers a half hour train ride, pulled by a steam locomotive or diesel engine. Cars on the vintage train were built between 1915 and 1935. The trip gives a view of the railroad yards, a ride across Bridge 60 and a short trip along the former main line.
